Officially a Londoner

I am officially a Londoner. An unemployed Londoner to be precise, but I do now have my London address. After viewing the Covent Garden apartment on Monday, I decided to throw caution to the wind and take the 6 month lease. The rent is a bargain, for the position, at £200/week. I like to think of that as $460/week, but only for a second or two before inducing another no-job panic attack.

The job situation is still not looking good. Since my last post, I have learned that August is always a slow month for business - kind of like January in Australia - because it's the summer school holidays blah blah blah. I'm sick of excuses, and have become quite vigilant holding the recruiters to their word. They are overworked or incompetent. Either way, it's next to impossible to get them to return a call. Regarding one agent, I left no less than 7 phone messages for her over a 2.5 day period, and had no response. And I rang only because she promised to call me back, and never did! Anyway, I'm feeling a bit up re agents after two good experiences today. I had two agents not only call me back, but they asked me all the right questions, and seem like they will honestly do their best to put me forward for (real) jobs. Reflecting on that, I had two great agents in one day, and it only takes one like that.

Nonetheless, I'm not going to let up now until I find work. After three months I have reached the point where I am sick of sightseeing and want to do something else. In a way, I'm hoping that the apartment will make me more focussed to find work. Staying with Denise and Anthony has been great, but it's a little easy to shrink back into the comfort zone of staying with someone. It's also nice to have my own space... after 3 months living out of a suitcase. I almost have free wi-fi access too, if I sit in one corner of the apartment, or anywhere just outside the door. I have photos at here.

I have also uploaded all of my New York photos to Flickr, but still sorting through them. If you can't wait and have a spare few hours, then you can click the Photographs link at the right. The photo sets will eventually be organised chronologically.
