London Snow

Since arriving in London eighteen months ago, and now in my second winter, it has been a fantasy of mine to wake up to a snow-blanketed landscape. I soon discovered the likelihood of this remaining a fantasy, given the infrenquency of snowfalls in London. Yet, I persisted to annoy my work colleagues with this fantasy, knowing that it would eventually be realised.

After a very mild start to the winter, freezing windows caused the mercury to plummet in the third week of January. With the temperature hovering around zero for several consecutive days, and, crucially, the high chance of precipitation, all the pre-conditions were in place for some snow. Few people at work believed me, on the afternoon of Tuesday 23 January, when I said it would snow overnight. I have to admit, even I didn't believe it was definitely going to happen, despite the forecasts...

When I woke the following morning, I peered out my window... and saw the white winter wonderland that I had been dreaming of....
